Huw Roberts was born in Prestatyn, North Wales and grew up in the seaside resorts of Rhyl and Colwyn Bay. He had a happy childhood and nothing untoward happened.
He studied film & visual communications at college and went on to have numerous jobs outside of his chosen field.
Following the birth of his two children Huw entered the theatre world as marketing manager for Venue Cymru in Llandudno. In his 6 years at the theatre he helped establish it as one of the most respected venues of its kind in the UK.
He was then offered the position of marketing director for Jim Davidson’s theatre company Effective Productions. Here he promoted some of the largest pantomimes in the UK as well as touring shows and Great Yarmouth pier theatre.
Following a brief spell promoting The Gala Theatre, Durham, Huw took 2 years off marketing to complete ‘Kamakan The Vampire Slug’. He worked on the cable car system in Llandudno by day and wrote the story at night and weekends.
He went on to work for his brother’s data storage company as marketing manager. After that Huw moved to Dublin to run The Helix Theatre as marketing manager.
On returning to Wales he worked again for his brother. He then won the Undiscovered Authors General Fiction Final for Wales with ‘Kamakan The Vampire Slug’.
Upon publication of the book Huw decided to adapt the story for stage and in 2007 staged “Kamakan The Vampire Slug - Live & Monstrous!!”. As a recital version of the book it proved extremely popular and he went on to work with Magic Light Productions to stage a full family show version “Dr Theodolyte presents Kamakan The Vampire Slug” in October 2009.
At Christmas 2009 Huw performed in ‘Robinson Crusoe and the Caribbean Pirates’ at The Kings Theatre Edinburgh as a pirate, puppeteer and dancer; one of the most entertaining experiences of his life so far.
Huw is currently in discussions with a major UK celebrity to produce an audio book version as well as working on further live and musical adaptations for ‘Kamakan The Vampire Slug’. He is also developing a series of stories about Dr Theodolyte.
